About Us
Founded in 1980, the Friends of the Encinitas Library (FOEL) has supported the Encinitas Library as it strives to encourage literacy, lifelong learning, and the love of reading and cultural enrichment throughout our diverse community.
Using revenues from bookstore sales and memberships, FOEL has helped fund a wide range of resources and programs over the year, including: integral support and fundraising for the new library building (2008); collection development; technology equipment; furnished the Teen Area, the Children's Area, and ocean view work areas; provides funds for the free First Sunday Concerts; sponsors Signature Events and special activities like Author Events, Art Nights, Dia de los Muertos and Summer Learning; library program performers, instructors, and supplies; STEM programs and outreach support to area schools; the Library's booth at the Encinitas Street Fair.
Our volunteer-run bookstore is staffed by over 50 volunteers, some of whom have been volunteering since 2008. It sells gently used books, cds, dvds and records donated by our generous community. FOEL also operates a Amazon store for books and media of higher value.
